Arab American Groups Want Coke To Pull *Racist* Super Bowl Ad

Here's the offending ad:

"The Coke commercial for the Super Ball is racist, portraying Arabs as backward and foolish Camel Jockeys, and they have no chance to win in the  world," Imam Ali Siddiqui, president of the Muslim Institute for Interfaith Studies, said in an email.

I hate to admit it, but the Imam is obviously correct.  This ad doesn't accurately portray modern Arabs at all.  I urge the Coca Cola Company to edit the commercial and replace the outdated Arab images with something more up to date . . . current.

Here are a few suggestions:

 

MUCH better!  Look, Ali, no camels!  Happy now?  And though some might be tempted to suggest that the above pictures are an attempt to stereotype all Arabs as "terrorists", that's, of course, ridiculous! Just ask our President . . . He wouldn't classify an Arab as a terrorist to save OUR lives!

The testimony today of Gabriel Giffords at The Senate Judiciary Committee hearings on gun violence was highly emotional.  However, highly emotional will not solve our gun violence problem.  Furthermore the use of Ms. Giffords as some sort of visual aid borders on the obscene.

To Gabriel and her handlers: Yes, "we must do something"!  First let's properly identify the problem and then let's formulate a solution that will actually ameliorate it.  Tear jerking *testimonies* and knee jerk *remedies*  are not the answer.

. . . And no, I'm not heartless . . . I'm just an equal opportunity misanthrope in search of some sanity.

Guest Post: On The Ongoing Rush To Legislate "Quick Fixes" For What Ails Us

My friend Doug posted this on Face Book, and I thought it was an observation worth reposting here.

We rushed into a ‘stimulus’ bill that cost over $300,000 for every job it "created of saved" according to the CBO and did nothing to fix the economy.

We rushed into a health-care solution that is causing everyone's health care expenses and premiums to rise.

We rushed into a tax solution that allowed every single American's taxes to rise.

Can we please, PLEASE, just stop for a moment and solve a problem we've created in the last 4 years before jumping into immigration 'reform'? Please, just once, stop running head-long into stirring up everyone into a 'crisis' that must be acted upon 'now before the world collapses!'.

There's not one thing (E.O. or bill) that Mr. Obama has signed that has solved the targeted problem.  In fact, every "comprehensive solution" has only served to make things worse!

ENOUGH, already!  If this President wants to sign something that will really solve a multitude of our nation's problems what he needs to sign is his resignation . . . And a complicit Congress should do likewise.
