"The Coke commercial for the Super Ball is racist, portraying Arabs as backward and foolish Camel Jockeys, and they have no chance to win in the world," Imam Ali Siddiqui, president of the Muslim Institute for Interfaith Studies, said in an email.
I hate to admit it, but the Imam is obviously correct. This ad doesn't accurately portray modern Arabs at all. I urge the Coca Cola Company to edit the commercial and replace the outdated Arab images with something more up to date . . . current.
Here are a few suggestions:
MUCH better! Look, Ali, no camels! Happy now? And though some might be tempted to suggest that the above pictures are an attempt to stereotype all Arabs as "terrorists", that's, of course, ridiculous! Just ask our President . . . He wouldn't classify an Arab as a terrorist to save OUR lives!
Looks like the guy on the horse is a Mexican. Is that racist?
